What We are Up To
Real Estate Investing is not for the faint of heart. We have had some news on our “Dollhouse” that makes your heart fall to your toes. We are still trying to find out the extent of what is happening though it looks like a section of the building is in danger of collapsing. We are working hard to find a solution and will share when we know more. I have a feeling this one will be a big learning experience and education expense. I thought we were finished with the Dollhouse as it was renovated, tenanted, refinanced and cashflowing. Not so. Stay tuned!
Lots of number crunching has been happening for our 55-unit development project. We are not talking about small numbers, so we are evaluating it from many different angles and scenarios including possibly waiting until rates come down a little before starting the build. We have spent long hours with our partners going over the different scenarios, options and risks.
I had fun speaking at the Elevated Women’s Real Estate Investors Summit at the beginning of May. Alecia sent me a copy of my interview about Building Great Relationships By Asking Better Questions. If you’d like to listen, click here.
For 3 weeks in May, Doug and I were on a Transatlantic Disney Cruise from Florida to Portugal and Spain. It was a great chance to unplug, relax and spend time with great friends who came with us. This was a much needed break and it was great to unplug for a bit.
Disney sure knows how to run a business and everything was top notch from the facilities, to the service, to the entertainment to the food. I had been a little unsure before we left about what we would do for 7 days at sea, however didn’t need to worry as there were over 200 things to choose from every day.
We stopped in Ponta Delgada, and Lisbon in Portugal, and Cadiz, Cartagena and Barcelona in Spain. I love all of the architecture of the buildings in Europe and my eyes couldn’t help picking out the distressed ones that could use some love lol. One day!
I’d love to hear what you are working on, respond to this email or send me a message. We all learn by sharing!
What I am listening to on Audible
Greenlights
by Matthew McConaughey
First of all, I purchased this audible as I like him as an actor and wanted to know his story however mostly because he was the one reading it.
His voice… enough said ;)
Embrace Greenlights: He talks about green lights as moments that indicate you are on the right path – recognize these opportunities (greenlights) and move forward.
Learn from Red and Yellow Lights: Understand that setbacks (red lights) and pauses (yellow lights) are valuable for growth. These lights offer lessons (education expenses as I call them) and teach you what not to do in the future or where to pivot.
Be True to Yourself: Authenticity is so important to stay true to your values, beliefs, and passions. Someone recently called me authentically extra and I love that!
Take Risks: Don't shy away from challenges or stepping out of your comfort zone. Risk-taking can lead to significant rewards and personal growth. You will not grow staying in your comfort zone.
Live with Integrity: Make decisions that align with your moral compass. Integrity is what you do even when no one is watching and when you live in integrity you have a fulfilling life.
Stay Present: Focus on the here and now. Being present allows you to fully experience and appreciate life’s moments. I have really been focusing on this the last few years and it has made a huge difference in the joy I have in my life.
Persist Through Hard Times: Resilience is key. This is so true in Real Estate Investing! Embrace hardships as they come, knowing they are temporary and often lead to greater strength and understanding.
Enjoy the Journey: Find joy in the process of living. Celebrate, love, and appreciate the journey, not just the destination.
Seek Balance: This is a tough one and is critical. Success at work without balance in your health or personal relationships is very hollow. Strive for balance for overall well-being and satisfaction.
Keep a Sense of Humour: Basically don’t take yourself so seriously. Humour can be a powerful tool for coping with challenges and enhancing enjoyment in life.
Useful Resource:
This week we started using the Plann That Social Media Scheduler for our social media. Getting social media done and posted is a struggle as there aren’t enough hours in a day and we have not had consistency. I’m sure many of you can relate to that! I have a new marketing intern who just started working for us. This system will allow my VA, intern and myself to collaborate, coordinate, develop and institute a plan to become more consistent with our social media to share our experiences, learnings, and what we are up to.
Plann can schedule to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tik Tok, Pinterest and You Tube. I love that it syncs with Canva, you can create a content calendar and it has lots of ideas and suggestions to help you. We have just started using it and it is feature heavy so you will be seeing a difference in our social media as we get up to speed on it.
They have given us a link to give you a $10 credit towards your first subscription if you want to try it (and they will give us a $10 credit if you do.)
If you want to see our progress, follow us on our Instagram, Facebook and Michele’s LinkedIn. If you have suggestions on what you would like to see us post, send us a message!
Useful Tip:
Instagram AI-Powered Automatic Reels
I have only scratched the minor tip of AI and know there are so many uses I haven’t learned yet. I came across this in a Plannthat email and tried it out. You can see the reel I generated, well actually AI generated, really quickly. There were a variety to choose from and different song options also.
AI automatically searches your images and videos within your account and on your device. The system can then generate new reels from scratch, which is fun to do and could help in a pinch when you want some content and don’t have a lot of time.
Step 1: Log into Instagram. Press the + icon, and choose reels from the creation menu.
Step 2: Scroll right through the top-of-screen menu bar, and select made for you.
Step 3: Review the generated reels, based on archive content materials.
Step 4: Select view to choose an audio track and auto-sync clips.
Step 5: Edit content as needed before publishing your new reel.
You can see the reel it created (so fast) on our Instagram account here (https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7hIi7uRg6k/?igsh=ejQxNng3ejA5bHQ5).
And while you are there, give us a like and a follow :)
We’d love to hear from you!
